Job content

As Head, you will be responsible for driving the strategy-setting, engagement, and activation of all external stakeholders who drive or influence the policies that determine our ability to successfully secure patient’s access to medicines. You will also be responsible for the overall Market Access Strategy covering the whole product portfolio, making sure that the medicines have optimal access to the Belgian and Luxembourg markets.


The team consists of 8 direct reports in Public Affairs (2) and Market Access (6). The Head of Market Access and Public Affairs is a permanent member of the Country Council and will directly report to the Country Chair and functionally to European Head of Market access and European Head of Public Affairs.


Key responsibilities

  • Lead the Market Access and Public Affairs team: be an inspirational people manager and initiate the necessary development actions and trainings. Hold individuals accountable for their performance and promote a culture of high performance.
  • Develop and ensure the execution of the Market Access and Public Affairs strategies and tactical plans, in alignment with the European and Local Public Affairs and Market Access strategy, and regional and local market priorities.
  • Maintain a network of external payer stakeholders and influencers that can be activated in response to specific access opportunities or risks
  • Personally conduct access/reimbursement negotiations with national payers and other payers / decision makers as required
  • Prioritize and develop focused plans with key external stakeholders
  • Understand the evolution of the Belux market access and political landscape and address implications for the business as well as opportunities through robust external affairs plans aiming to shape the environment.
  • Identify the market access barriers at the time of launch and start working a few years before to define a strategy that will allow the right engagement with all key stakeholders in the best possible way to secure patient’s access to treatment
  • Work with the patient community to understand the challenges they have when living with that condition and their request for more impactful treatments
  • Build market access and public affairs capabilities and understanding within the Country
  • Ensures compliance of his/her team with the code of ethics, company procedures and guidelines and takes any corrective action in order to manage and minimize any potential risk.


Essential requirements

  • University degree, preferably in Pharmacy, Medicine, Life Sciences, Political Science, Law or Economy or equivalent experience
  • 10 years of experience within the pharmaceutical experience, including at least 3 years of experience in a leadership position and a good external affairs network
  • Experience in public affairs and patient advocacy, market-shaping strategies, advocacy campaigns, or advanced responsibilities in an industry public affairs role
  • Experience in Market Access (including a good understanding of Pricing & Contracting, RWE (Real World Evidence)  data generation, Health Economics) as well as the Belux healthcare and reimbursement systems.
  • Ability to influence in a proactive, objective and diplomatic manner
  • Ability to drive projects and initiatives and execute successfully in a complex environment, working with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven track record successfully executing complex projects and initiatives, on time, within budget, with measurement of results
  • Ability to translate public affairs and market access objectives in a strategic action plan
  • Fluent in Dutch, French and English
